Manzanilla Boardwalk

Adventure time! My friends and I decided to meet up to enjoy the evening together. My plan was for us to go to Manzanilla to view the Sunset. I recalled that a Boardwalk was constructed there some time recently and I had always had visiting that Boardwalk on my to-do list also. One crucial fact happened to slip my mind thought…

The Sunset was hidden behind the treeline

So Manzanilla is actually on the eastern coast of our island. Lol. But the Boardwalk was fantastic. The sound of the sea and the rushing breeze soothed my soul! It was indeed a worthwhile two hour long drive to this marvelous destination!

So we realised that we had only missed the one year anniversary of the commemoration of the Manzanilla Boardwalk by a couple days.

The view was magnificent and there were still bathers enjoying the waters.

My friends and I had a blast catching up. You never realise how much you have to catch up on until you actually meet up face to face. It was a welcomed barrage of good conversation and unbridled laughter! Adrian, Shantal, Johannah and I will surely remember this day for years to come ❤

Sunset was at 6:29pm and we got there around 6:25pm. En route we encoutered road detours due to road repairs in Sangre Grande and we also made some unplanned detours of our own trying to find the route. Eventually we placed all our trust in the navigation app Waze and this led us to Boodoo Highway. Boodoo Highway was actually a narrow road with unforgetable potholes! On the way back, rain poured like buckets of water being tossed per droplet. We then encountered intense traffic. At this point Adrian got out the car and got us drinks and snacks ❤

Finally we took a long shortcut through Cumuto. The good thing about this route is that it’s practically traffic free. There was no downside to it actually, I had actually driven this road a lot back in 2011 when I used to chauffeur my daddy to and from work. It was a cool moment in life when I got to be the go-to person for my dad. I bet it’s every child’s dream to be able to be there for their parents in a special way one day! ❤ ❤ ❤

Everyone got home safely and we vowed to add more road trips to our memory bank in the future. Thank you God for good friends and friendships that transcend space and time 😀

Yumming The Worms (Early & Now)

So the day started as any other… I’m a horrible liar! Lol, The day started with me wanting! I’m a chronic ‘wanter’ for those who know me best. It’s always a new phone, or a new logitech mouse, or a new pretty jar (ball jars were my latest fad). This time I wanted more. More than an item that I’d eventually want a cooler version of. I wanted something to nourish me from my very soul. I wanted to experience something that God put here on Earth. Something that we often pass-by and never give its due regard. I wanted to internalize nature! And well do some exercise too, because God himself knows that these extra three pounds aren’t gonna go away just by wishful thinking.

So I proceeded to my batmobile! Okai I jumped in Bunnie (my awesome-tastic car :D) and she and I went vooshing over the Lady Young!

Heading to the Savannah Via the Lady Young 6:23am

This was early! For a holiday and for Shami. I felt like the early bird! Mind you the Savannah was already packed when I got there. But that’s totally besides the point. This is a Shami-defined moment, so I was early 😀

I was totally pumped! The air was fresh! Cyclists and joggers were everywhere. Other people were just like me, willing and ready to enjoy nature. My soul felt alive, this was the perfect choice!

A Blooming Paradise

So the aim was simple. Walk briskly and jog. But boy was I distracted. The scenery was magnificent. I had to stop like practically every 15 steps to take a picture. Moments like these must be internalized. I need to be able to love-off on this view forever!

I walked an entire lap. Well so-so. And promised myself that I’ll try jogging the next time around. Then the need for exploration came at me with full force. Come on, why should I follow the neatly paved path around the Queens Park Savannah, Ain’t nothing cool about that. Then my path became clear *angelic choir sounds*

Off-Track Shami Sham

I got lured into the heart of our ‘World’s Largest Roundabout’ of a Savannah. And going off-track was as rewarding as always.

The Hollows 7:07am

The Hollows 7:07am

My first time here. Shockingly so. I drive around this Savannah almost daily. I’ve always heard of picnics at The Hollows and often wondered about it. Cousins and friends often spoke about it but I never really walked up to the spot. I saw other humans in my sacred and newly-discovered spot lol. I also saw a bird!!!

More beautiful trees.

Then I approached the ‘Spirit Tree’. This was one mighty creation! Its beauty surpassed that of all I had already seen. The entire Savannah seemed to exist just to glorify the exquisite beauty of this single living organism.

From Wikipedia: Queen’s Park Savannah is a park in the capital city Port of Spain of Trinidad & Tobago. It is Port of Spain’s largest open space and it occupies about 260 acres (1.1 km2) of level land, and the distance around the perimeter is about 2.2 mi (3.5 km). Once sugar land, it was bought by the town council in 1817 from the Peschier family (except for a small parcel near its centre that served as the Peschier cemetery, which remains in private hands).

From here I proceeded to jog. I fooled myself with imaginary boundaries and promised myself rewards of cheesecake and Doritos. Don’t you dare complain that I was defeating the purpose of exercising. I eventually made a 2.00km straight run. Now I have a dream of a running a 5k. Hehe. I’m a big dreamer. Nike+ Running has a great coach lol.

I had a beautiful morning. I feel like a better me already 😀 Nature walked with me and revealed to me its beauty. I enjoyed the fresh air. My soul enjoyed the relaxation. Appreciating nature and taking care of my body was my worship for that day. Glory be to God for the opportunity to enjoy nature 🙂

I enjoy the SKY!! I love off on sunsets and I adore the sunrise. I am thoroughly delighted by clouds!

My traffic filled Wednesday. Wednesday 28th January 2015 was one of my worst traffic experiences. Mind you, 2015 has already brought with it its fair share of horrible traffic days in our nation’s capital.

So my Wednesday started off as any other work day – Ignoring my alarm, waking up late and hustling to leave home on time. And, in this melee I never got time to comb my hair.

So skip to the traffic and skies now….

On leaving work, the traffic on Ariapita Avenue was nasteh!. So I cheered as I headed towards the Lady Young.

The following is taken from Wikipedia

The Lady Young Road is a major roadway in Trinidad & Tobago linking the Eastern Main Road in Barataria to the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain. It is also an important connector between the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway and uptown Port of Spain.

The Lady Young Road runs through Morvant and crosses the foothills of the Northern Range. Named for the wife of Governor Hubert Winthrop Young, the road is well known for its picturesque views of Port of Spain and its harbour. The road is one of the three main links between Port-of Spain and Morvant, others being Old Morvant Hill Road and the Beetham Highway.

The road is known for its tight curves and hard gradients due to the hill’s treacherous curves.

The traffic here started well before the Lookout. I am an opportunist *dances* finally I got an opportunity to take out pictures here without actually having to pull over. My iPhone & I got to work 😀

Traffic became a blessing to me. I could easily cruise and snap away. I had a few near misses tho, luckily my Tiida (her name is Bunnie) has a pretty awesome braking system lol!

The city, with all its ridiculous traffic laid beneath me 😀

Traffic persisted and so too did the marvellous skies

Again from Wikipedia

The sky (or celestial dome) is everything that lies above the surface of the Earth, including the atmosphere and outer space… During daylight, the sky appears to be blue because air scatters blue sunlight more than it scatters red. At night, the sky appears to be a mostly dark surface or region scattered with stars.

cloud is a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water chemical or various suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body.

Only in Trinidad do you find a random chicken chilling out at the side of the road. Well in Tobago too lol

And home was near. And life was good 🙂
